It
is most important for everyone to be climate clever
through sustainable living. Per annum, approximately
15 tons of emissions are produced by the average Australian
household. Fuel use, electricity consumption and household
waste all contribute to these emissions.
Everyone
has the opportunnity to reduce these emissions, it is
easy and beneficial, saving you hard earned money and
most important the environment we live in. There are
many simple tasks you can do to help, here are some
hints to get you started:
Energy
Tip 1. Greenpower
Where
you can, use greenpower accredited enrgy. Greenpower
energy is created from sources such as wind power, solar
power and biomass. These sources are renewable and produce
less greenhouse emissions.

Tip 2. Insulate your home
Insulation
protects you all year round from the extremes
of outside temperatures and noise. By reduciing
the heat entering your home in summer, insulation
will increase the comfort and energy efficiency
of your home 365 days a year. Find

Tip 3. Take advantage of Solar Hot Water
Installing
a solar hot water system is the single biggest
action that you can take around the home to reduce
greenhouse gases.
The multi award winning Dux system brings hot
water into the 21st century. The system's next
generation technology is engineered to maximize
solar absorption, increase energy efficiency and
add value to your home. Find

Tip 4. Be Waterwise.
A
5 minute shower uses less water than having a
bath, and a leaking hot water tap dripping once
a second for a day can waste enough hot water
for an extra person. The Dux Water Guardian can
save 1000's of litres of water per household per
year. Find

Tip 5. Keeping your home cool in summer and warm
in winter
Wind
driven and solar powered roof ventilators cost
nothing to run.
Help your air-conditioner run more efficiently,
set the thermostat for summer at 25°C and
for winter at 18°C.
Select the ‘recirculate’ setting on
your air-conditioner, it is more efficient to
keep cooling or warming the already conditioned
air inside. Reverse cycle air-conditioning cost
about half as much to run than a radiator, fan
heater or oil-filled heater. Save on cooling costs
in summer by drawing curtains early in the day
when a hot day is forecast. Find

Tip 6. Use natural lighting
Natural
light produced by the sun is extrmely importnat
to the quality of life we live. It lifts spirits,
makes spaces appear larger, and reveals our world
in its true colour. Unfortunately, todays homes
rarely have enough natural light. Find

Tip 7. Use public transport
You
should always try and use public transport where possible.
Public transport uses 146 times less greenhouse emissions
and air pollution than a single person driving a 4WD.
Another fantastic means of transport which is healthy
for the environment and yourself, is walking and riding,
and no greenhouse emissions at all.
Energy
Tip 8. Plant some trees
Trees
absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through the
process of photosynthesis. By planting native trees
will reduce carbon from the atmosphere by storing it
in the planet. You will also be providing a habitat
for native animals, imporving air quality and providing
shade.
Energy
Tip 9. E10 Fuel
Use
E10 fuel. E10 is a 10% ethanol blended fuel with uses
ethanol produced from sugar cane. E10 is suitable for
most vehicles, and by using E10 you are promoting renewable
energy and supporting regional jobs.
Energy
Tip 10. Vegetable Garden
Turn
your organic waste into fresh homegrown produce by creating
a vegetable garden.
Energy
Tip 11. Keep your home naturally cool
Keep
your home naturally cooler by using shade cloth, or
vegitation to shade walls and windows that easily absorb
heat. If you can keep your home naturally cooler you
will save energy, your money and the environment.
Energy
Tip 12. Turn off appliances when not in use.
You
can easily save energy and money by turning off any
household appliances that are not in use for extended
periods of time. You can also replace any older appliances
with new energy efficient ones.
Energy
Tip 13. Energy Efficient Lights
Your
lighting usage accounts for about 10% of your electricity
bill. Reduce your bill, by replacing all your old incandescent
light globes for compact fluorescent light globes (CFL's),
or fluoro lights or led lights. By doing this you can
save up to 25% of the energy that would normally be
used on lighting, and CFL's last up to 6-10 times longer
than normal light globes. Using these new and efficient
lights means you will reduse your energy bills, and
lower your home's greenhouse gas emissions.
Paint rooms in light colours, as it aids reflection
of available light, and instead of lighting up the entire
room use directional light for particular areas of use.
Energy
Tip 14. Drive Sensibly
Drive
sensibly, Aggressive driving wastes petrol.
Energy
Tip 15. Clean clothes dryer filters regularly
Clean
clothes dryer filters regularly - It speeds up the drying
time as well as being safer
