It has never been more
important, than it is today, to practice energy efficiency. From
climate change to surging power prices, everybody can benefit from
being more Climate Clever through sustainable living.
Installing energy saving devices such as solar panels, solar hot
water, skylights, vents and insulation, is a great start to becoming
carbon neutral. But there are many small and easy measures you can
take to minimize your carbon footprint.
Leave
it behind
Instead of driving to
work every day, make a commitment to walk/ride/run or catch public
transport once a week. When you think you have conquered the Monday
bus timetable, ramp it up to three days a week and you’ll
soon be riding high on half of your carbon output. Carpooling is
another great way to minimize your carbon footprint.
Change
it up
Change over any incandescent
light bulbs to Compact Fluorescent (CFL) bulbs to save money on
your lighting electricity costs. You may have to pay a little extra
for CFL bulbs but they last around 8 times longer!
Turn
it off
Turn off any appliances
at the wall when not in use. Appliances still use energy when in
stand-by mode so make a quick check whenever you’re leaving
the house.
Go
Green!
Where you can, use green-power
accredited energy. Green-power energy is created from sources such
as wind power, solar power and biomass. These sources are renewable
and produce less greenhouse emissions. You can find out more about
Green-Power from your energy provider.
